Guess what? At least 80% of essential oils on the market are fake.
Yup. that’s real. and it’s the worst. But let’s get into the good stuff.
intro to essential oils ♥
Essential oils are everywhere--literally everywhere. The grocery store, Target, online, and even the craft store. But not all oils contain healing properties. Just because it smells like a plant doesn’t mean it works like magic. Just because it says “pure” doesn’t mean it actually is. In fact, 80% of the essential oils on the market are actually fake. Right? I was pissed when I found out, but it also explained why some of my oils didn’t seem to have any affect on me.So I looked at doTERRA and went all in. I’ve never once regretted opening my wholesale membership right away. And I never miss me grocery store oils.
Why doTERRA over other companies?
I tried several different brands before doTERRA and I didn’t think twice about where those oils were coming from or how the earth was being preserved. Then I learned about doTERRA and their sourcing practices:
Plants are grown in their native habitat and harvested at the best time to get all of the oil. Fun fact: Wintergreen grows in a lot of places, but it grows best in Nepal, so that is where doTERRA sources their oils. You can see how it is sourced here.
The oils are ethically sourced. doTERRA sources their oils all over the world (because some plants grow better other places than the United States, obvs), and two-thirds of our sourcing is done in developing countries. Instead of going in and taking over, doTERRA partners with them, allowing them to grow and better their life without taking everything away from them. doTERRA makes sure the growers get fair and on-time payments and also offers profit-sharing programs to the people they work with. We call this “co-impact sourcing”. Click the link to watch a quick video about it! Oh, and doTERRA helps to teach their partners to create cooperatives and preserve farmlands for the future generations. Which leads to the next point:
They love the earth! For me, this is huge. I mean, I’m not great at reducing my carbon footprint, but I started recycling, composting, and I’m growing wildflowers for the pollinators, and milkweed for the monarchs, so I’ve got that going for me. And fun fact: doTERRA’s name essentially means, “gift of the earth” and not only do they value their employees, they value the way the plants and oils are treated.
What comes in a starter kit?
Watch the video below! Basically, we have several starter kits (see here), but the most common ones come with these ten essential oils and blends.
